With all the different makes and models, as well as price ranges,
where do you start? Since the goal is to be able to sit for hours on end in
comfort, let's explore what the different components of an office chair are.
The "adjustable parts" of an office chair are the backrest, the height
adjustment and the seat pan.
The "stationary parts" of a typical office chair are the fabric, the seat
cushion, and arm rests.
The best way to determine if an office chair is right for you is to actually sit
in one for a while. If you do your research online, and want to buy online, but
are not sure the chair you pick will be "right" for you, you can always try
similar models in your local stores.
Then, come back and buy online, as you will usually find better
bargains all around.
Your budget, of course, will be a big factor, because some models are certainly
not cheap! But, you know the old saying, "you get what you pay for"... and we
have found this to be particularly true of office chairs.
It's like a car, the more features, the better the quality, the more trusted the
"name", the higher the cost. Eliminate chairs you are unable to afford first,
then look for the chair which has the features you would like.
Next, pick the colors and materials/fabrics that best suit your preferences and
needs.
Here are some examples of the "parts" and options you will be making decisions
on:
tilt or no tilt
swivel or no swivel
leather, fabric, or mesh
how much padding
how much height adjustment there is
reclining or not
width and depth of the seat
wheels or no wheels
color and patterns
is it a reputable merchant like
Herman Miller?
heated or not
With all these options in mind, I'd say go for the most options you can get at
the lowest price! (Isn't that what we all want?)
It can be a very personal decision, and one that may require some
serious self-assessment of what your needs and preferences are, and how best to
meet them.
So, start doing some research on the online options that are available to you.
